The Urban Cake

Silver-plated brass.

I’ve conceived that sculpture could be more than just a visual object — it could evoke perception and action of human beings. You can see the sculpture: twin buildings standing behind, and a courtyard of cake in front. Each of those squares is stacked on top of another and forms a geometrical sculpture. In this theme, ‘Vom Tisch zu Mund’, cake is the menu, which is an edible courtyard shaped in a square form as well.

First, you pick up the one that you need or that suits you. Place it on the cake, press it, and lift it up. Grab it in your hand and slowly push the tower upwards. The veiled layers, colors, and sweets beneath the cake finally come out — and you can enjoy them directly with your tongue. Then, hold it high in the air, enjoy, and celebrate the edible, aesthetic experience.

The architectural object transforms into the agent of performance — shifting from form to function, from structure to shared experience.
